Jofre Carnicer

CREAF researcher, professor of Ecology at the University of Barcelona (UB) and since 2018 also author of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change). His research analyzes the impact of climate change on Mediterranean ecosystems and, in particular, focuses on the response of the forests, on the interaction between plant and animal, as well as on ecosystem services.

His research analyzes the impact of climate change on Mediterranean ecosystems and, in particular, focuses on the response of the forests, on the interaction between plant and animal, as well as on ecosystem services.

As author of the IPCC, he has participated in the 6th Assessment Report published on 2022 (Working Group II), which analyzes the effect of climate change on ecosystems and society on a global scale, the environmental and social risks, as well as the possible sustainable adaptation pathways.

He is a member of the Consejo Nacional del Clima (CNC), a commission attached to the current Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, created in 1992 and whose objective today is to constitute an institutional forum to develop and supervise public policies on climate change. It is participated by all public administrations, organizations and entities representing social and environmental interests, and its objective has been revised since its creation.

At CREAF, he is the principal investigator of the ongoing project MICROCLIM (Microclimatic variability and resilience of forest carbon sinks to global warming) and has recently led the research project REGIME-SHIFTS (Drought regime shifts and global warming: Impacts, mechanisms, forecasts and mitigation strategies). As a professor of Ecology, he teaches at the University of Barcelona in the fields of knowledge of climate change, critical transition in ecosystems and society, management of protected areas, conservation biology and sustainable development. He is part of the UB research group Teaching Innovation Group in Ecology and Global Change (GIDEC).
