Jordi Martínez-Vilalta
I obtained a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB, 2001). I am currently full professor of ecology at the UAB and researcher at CREAF. I have been an honorary researcher at the University of Edinburgh (UK), and obtained an ICREA Academy distinction in 2014 and 2020.
My research aims to improve our understanding of the functioning of forest systems and focuses on the study of:
- the use and long-distance transport of water and carbon in plants;
- the response of forests to environmental change, emphasizing the impact of drought in the context of climate change;
- the distribution and variability of plant functional traits and their use for understanding and predicting vegetation function and dynamics, including the provision of ecosystem services.
I am a member of the editorial board of the journals Tree Physiology, Journal of Plant Hydraulics, Environmental & Experimental Botany, and Plant Cell & Environment.
I have co-authored an ecology textbook: 'Ecología con números' (Lynx Ediciones, 2006) and an outreach book on global environmental change: ‘Un planeta a la deriva, converses sobre el canvi global’ (RBA La Magrana, 2011).
