CREAF is seeking to appoint a post-doctoral researcher to work on the RESONATE project (Resilient forest value chains – enhancing resilience through natural and socio-economic responses https://resonateforest.org), funded under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme (LC-RUR-11-2019-2020).
The project aims at improving our understanding of the resilience of European forests and forest value chains and how it can be enhanced in a context of increasing climate change disturbances. The project will assess and model the resilience and vulnerability of key forest ecosystem services as a function of past, current and future environmental conditions in different forest types and management systems across Europe.
A full-time contract is offered, with a planned incorporation in March or April 2022 with a duration of 24 month. The salary offered is 30.471,75 € gross per year.
 

TASKS
- Assess different forest ecosystem services and their resilience in Catalonia and contribute to synthesis efforts incorporating similar assessments for other study areas included in the project.
- Use a process-based model to model the dynamics of selected forest ecosystem services in Catalonia under different climatic and management scenarios, and contribute to synthesis efforts incorporating similar modelling studies for other study areas included in the project.
- Assist in project management tasks, including the coordination of CREAF’s team with other partners participating in the Project, to achieve the planned milestones and deliverables of the project.

REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Forest Sciences, Biology, Environmental Sciences, Geography or equivalent.
- A completed PhD on a topic related to the current project description.
- Research experience on forest ecosystems, particularly on their response to global change and/or the assessment of forest ecosystem services, as evidenced from prior scientific publications.
- Expertise in managing and analyzing large databases.
- Advanced experience in programming and data analysis using R.
- Experience using models in forest ecology or closely related areas of research (beyond purely statistical applications).
- Advanced knowledge of English.

ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS
- Experience using and/or developing process-based models in forest ecology or closely related areas of research.
- Experience in working alongside and/participation in large international research groups, preferably in the context of EU projects.
- International working experience.
