MEDYCI
National Projects
Project duration:
Sep 2021 to Aug 2024

Introduction

MEDYCI will elucidate novel understanding on how species traits and local environmental factors interrelate to allow species inhabiting the urban environment, to then provide proper management guidelines enhancing urban biodiversity. Such an integrative approach is currently lacking. MEDYCI will fill this knowledge gap by quantifying the relationships between species traits and environmental conditions (landscape) as drivers of successful colonization and dynamics in the city. To achieve this, we will use citizen-based data of 53 butterfly species collected in two urban areas (Barcelona and Madrid) and their (semi)natural surroundings. This will reveal the level of habitat quantity and quality required to maximize the presence and persistence of species in urban environment.
