CREAF Talk with Jake Nelson - "Development of data driven flux estimates from FLUXCOM-X"
TITLE: "Development of data driven flux estimates from FLUXCOM-X"
DATE: Thursday, 31th October 2024.
TIME & FORMAT: form 12 to 1pm CET - In-person and online.
Seminars will combine in-person and online formats (CREAF, Sala Graus II, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain) but in all cases, talks will be always streamed (not recorded), so they can be followed online.
HOW TO CONNECT: direct link to the conference.
SUMMARY OF THE WORKSHOP:
Jake will show the latest updates from FLUXCOM-X, a new modelling framework for terrestrial biogenic fluxes that builds on the widely used FLUXCOM observation-based dataset. FLUXCOM-X provides higher resolution water and carbon flux estimates (0.05 degree and hourly estimates), as well as a flexible framework for exploring the impact of methodological choices on the flux estimates, including the impact of machine learning approaches and input data selection and processing steps.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Jake's work has focused on how plants use water, including investigating how carbon and water cycles interact, as well as estimating transpiration across a wide variety of ecosystems. He primarily uses a data driven approach which utilizes machine learning, but is also guided by physiological understanding. Currently, he's working with the FLUXCOM team to produce the next generation of global data driven estimates of terrestrial carbon, energy, and water fluxes.
