Lluís Gómez Gener
I hold both a BSc in Chemistry (2010) and a MSc in Water Science (2012). Sponsored by a FPI grant, in 2012 I joined the Department of Ecology at the University of Barcelona, where I received a PhD in Ecology (2017).
After the PhD, I was honored with four competitive Post-Doctoral Positions. The first one (from 2017 to 2018) at the University of Umeå (Sweden). The second one (from 2019 to 2020) at the EPFL (Switzerland). The third one (from April to November 2021) at the CEAB.
Currently (from December 2021), I am working as a La Caixa Junior Leader Post-Doctoral Researcher at the CREAF. My primary research aim is to understand how carbon (C) moves and cycle across different scales in catchments. This integrate:
- the identification of regimes of different C species in streams and lakes;
- the linkage between physical and biogeochemical process modulating the sources, cycling and destination of C in watersheds;
- the study of processes at eco-hydrological interfaces (e.g., land-water-atmosphere, surface-subsurface, dry-wet);
- the evaluation of changes in watershed C dynamics as a consequence of human- and climate-driven hydrological changes (e.g., droughts, floods, snowmelt changes, glacier retreat);
I use a cross-disciplinary approach saddled between landscape ecology, watershed hydrology and ecosystem biogeochemistry.
My research has been also catalyzed by novel DIY technologies (e.g., design relies mainly on the use of low-cost solutions controlled with microprocessors) enabling to record environment parameters at the high-frequency frequencies over long time periods.
