Mariona Kirchner Sala
My name is Mariona Kirchner and I am from Barcelona. I am a geographer specialized in sustainability and environmental governance, with a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development from Utrecht University. My academic training and experience have focused on quantitative and qualitative analysis, policy evaluation and climate change adaptation planning, as well as governance and sustainability frameworks.
I have experience in spatial analysis and the use of GIS for environmental planning and territorial management. I have worked on interdisciplinary projects on sustainability and governance, such as the Earth System Governance Project. I have also worked in environmental education, leading sustainability workshops in over 70 schools with Anthesis Lavola.
Here at CREAF, I will be part of the MountResilience project, where I will spend the next three years developing an action plan to improve the climate resilience of the Catalan Pyrenees. I am particularly interested in projects that connect research with action to promote more effective environmental management and sustainable territorial planning. The Pyrenees have played an important role in my life, and now I want to contribute to their resilience and conservation.
I like the outdoors and in my free time I enjoy exploring the territory by hiking, as well as spending time with friends. I also like to travel and discover how sustainability works in different cultural contexts.
