BESOS_2017
Obtaining CORINE land and habitat cover maps and analyzing the changes to the Besòs basin, in the Water Quality Assessment of the River Basin Systems of the Besòs Catchment (1997-2017)
Within the Evaluation of the State of Quality of the River Basin Systems of the Besòs Basin (1997-2017) coordinated by the Besòs-Tordera consortium, it is proposed to update this cartography and analyze its changes with regard to the starting situation.
The natural systems of the Besòs Basin have shown a general improvement of their state in the last two decades, as a result of the actions carried out in the basin. However, there is no compilation sufficiently recent and complete –including the basic environmental quality indicators and the main components of biodiversity– of the state of these natural systems that allow to assess this improvement. In 1999, the Consorci published the Biodiversity Study of the Besòs Basin, which made an initial radiography of the natural systems of the basin just at the beginning of the great improvement actions.
Since 1999, the country has been equipped with much more complete and georeferenced cartography and biodiversity databases that allow an update and an improvement in the knowledge of the biodiversity state of the Besòs Basin. Among these bases is the Soil Map of Catalonia (MCSC) coordinated by CREAF and the Cartography of Habitats of Catalonia (CHC) developed by the Geobotany Group And Cartography of the Vegetation of the UB.
Again, these maps have been out of date since the latest available versions date from 2007-2009. In the case of the CHC, there are more recent maps (2010) that cover all of Catalonia but on a very rough scale (1: 25000).
