SPRING

Pollinators face unprecedented threats from human activities, including land-use change, intensive agricultural practices and pesticide use, pollution, invasive alien species, pathogens, and climate change. To monitor pollinator declines and take appropriate mitigation measures, the EU has proposed a European Pollinator Monitoring Scheme (EUPoMS). The aim of SPRING is to validate this scheme and to strengthen taxonomic capacity with regard to pollinators in EU Member States. To do this, SPRING will build up a professional and citizen science network on pollinators, organize basic and advanced taxonomic training, and conduct pollinator surveys across Europe to test and refine the methodology of EUPoMS. The Insect and Pollination Ecology group of CREAF and Museum of Natural Science of Granollers will coordinate surveys in the Atlantic/Mediterranean region (France, Spain, Portugal) and participate in the taxonomic capacity building activities.
