Aldemar Carabajo Hidalgo
PhD in Ecology from University of Barcelona. As a forest ecologist my research interest has been focused on understanding the ecology and physiology of the forests, their interactions with the environment, and how these interactions are affected by the current climate change. For this, during the last ten years I have been studying the ecophysiology of high Andean Ecuadorian forests with special interest in transpiration, photosynthesis and water use efficiency. Some of my activities were related with carbon stocks and fluxes in Polylepis forests, which enhanced my interest in carbon balance research.
At CREAF, I am part of the INFORMA project, together with Santiago Sabaté and Daniel Nadal Sala. We analyze the impacts of forest management on carbon balances and its potential enhancement of carbon sink capacities, comparing managed vs. unmanaged forests. Furthermore, I am also interested in contribute to different lines of research such as forest ecology (both mountain and riparian forest), wildfires, forest ecohydrology and climate change.
