Josep Barba Ferrer

I have a BSc degree in Biology (University of Barcelona, 2009), an MSc in Terrestrial Ecology (Autonomous University of Barcelona, 2010), and a PhD in Biology (Autonomous University of Barcelona, 2015). I did my PhD research at CREAF, studying how plant and soil interactions affect soil respiration and organic matter turnover. As a postdoctoral researcher, I expanded my line of research to other greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4 and N2O), with a particular interest on the role of trees exchanging methane with the atmosphere. 

My interest in greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems brought me to the University of Antwerp (BE) (2013; predoctoral stay), the University of Delaware (USA) (2016-2019; postdoctoral researcher), and the University of Birmingham (UK) (2019-2021; postdoctoral researcher). Since 2021, I have been a researcher at CREAF, first within the framework of the Severo Ochoa research excellence program and currently within the Ramon y Cajal program.

Soil respiration and soil biogeochemical cycles. Physiological ecology of plants and ecosystems. Drought responses of plants and ecosystems. Plant and ecosystem resilience mechanisms.
