Marcel Montanyès Solé
My name is Marcel Montanyès Solé, and I’m from Barcelona. I studied at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and completed my PhD at the Technical University of Denmark, focusing on large-scale marine biodiversity. As an ecologist, I’m particularly interested in biodiversity—its drivers and patterns. I work with large datasets to analyze biodiversity trends and fit species distribution models, which are key tools for predicting future changes and anticipating their impact. Through my research, I aim to generate knowledge that
informs management and conservation efforts, helping to preserve natural ecosystems and their value.
I am now joining CREAF as part of the SPEAR project, where I will be modeling bird biodiversity across Europe to capture future dynamics of bird distribution under different scenarios.
Beyond research, my fascination with biodiversity extends into my free time, where I enjoy photographing all kinds of animals and natural landscapes. I also love hiking, mountain biking, and playing sports, as well as playing the guitar, board games, watching movies, or simply having a drink with friends.
