BIOCONS
Biodiversity Conservation Under Global Change
The BIOCONS scientific strategy addresses the main challenges faced by Mediterranean ecosystems in the present context of environmental change. The structure and composition of the group explicitly recognize the complexity of the interactions and feedbacks between socioeconomic and environmental components of ecosystems.
Objectives
The main research objectives of the group are structured along three different temporal frames (past, present and future) and include:(1) to advance in the understanding how historical process have affected Mediterranean biodiversity, its ecosystems and have shaped their current state, (2) to monitor and assess the response of current biodiversity and ecosystem dynamics to the different drivers of change; (3) to project the future by developing integrative ecosystem assessments under different socioeconomic and environmental scenarios and (4) to develop the basis for a science-informed policy making on biodiversity conservation, land-use planning, ecosystem restoration.
