PROGRESS-EIRE
Mapping support system of the green infrastructure of the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County (Ireland) based on SITxell
The project is associated to the Interreg Europe PROGRESS project and aims to develop and test a scoring and mapping approach for ecosystem services (ES) for the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCC, Ireland) for Green Infrastructure Planning Support. This approach will facilitate the consideration of contrasting perspectives for ES assessment in DLRCC through the integration of existing datasets relevant to the DLRCC municipality.
Ecosystem services (ES) are the benefits that humankind obtains from the natural capital and constitute the natural base for economic prosperity and quality of life. Failure of ecosystem services due to capital natural loss will increase dependence on imported goods and higher risk from diseases and natural catastrophes. There is thus an urgent need to improve the relevant regional policies and to provide multi-stakeholder solutions for protection and sustainable use of the natural capital.
Actions
Based on the experience in the the SITxell Territorial Information System of Barcelona, partially developed by CREAF, the project will:
Develop a scoring and mapping approach for ecosystem services for the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) administrative on the basis of:
- Intrinsic value
- Functional value and
- Leisure/Cultural value map indicators
Test whether these three dimensions might be combined in order to identify the areas maximising the sum and the diversity of values. Participate in workshops with key stakeholders and managers to implement the approach.
