Regenerative Agriculture as a way to advance towards food sovereignty and the fight against climate change, biodiversity loss and rural abandonment

In Catalonia, as in most European countries, Regenerative Agriculture is very little known and is very little extended at the level of the productive sector. However, there are some examples of farms where it has been applied for many years with great results in terms of production and conservation of the environment. In this project, 4 Regenerative Agriculture Model Experiences have been selected, among the most relevant in all of Catalonia, and it is proposed to take advantage of the experience and knowledge that these have generated during the time they have been operating to achieve two major global objectives: I. Assess at different scales (farm, region, Catalonia) the impacts of regenerative practices to respond to the main environmental challenges; II. Contribute to promoting its transfer, dissemination and eventual real application in the country's productive system.

The Methodology that will be carried out to achieve these operational objectives is specified in a series of actions: (i) Promotion of a network of regenerative Model Experiences (and their corresponding conventional control farms); (ii) Definition and quantification of the basic processes of each farm; (iii) Evaluation of the impacts of the regenerative model at the farm level, including soil fertility, carbon and water footprint, pollinator biodiversity, food production and economic and social aspects; (iv) Extrapolation to Catalonia of the impacts of the regenerative model; (v) Transfer and dissemination of the results obtained; and (vi) Definition and discussion of measures to promote the transition to this new model.
