EARTHWATCH PIRINEU
Wildlife in the French Pyrenees
The main objective of this project is to conduct a long term survey of high elevation organisms and some of their interactions, to determine whether climate change and/or human pressure will lead to new communities.
"Wildlife in the French Pyrenees" is a citizen science project funded by the Earthwatch Institute. The main objective of this project is to conduct a long term survey of high elevation organisms and some of their interactions, to determine whether climate change and/or human pressure will lead to new communities.
A major player in the project is the brown bear, very common in the study area and, inadvertently, a cause of many decisions that affect the lives of locals (management of natural systems, for example), and, of course, determines the presence or abundance of certain species with which it interacts.
In this project we track the phenology of some species, assess the presence and abundance of most vertebrates, and study the interaction between plants and pollinators, all in the five most most common habitats of Pyrenees.
