Works to control flooding of rice fields using GIS
In order to carry out the verification of the agri-environmental assistance of rice fields located in RAMSAR areas of Catalonia (Terres de l'Ebre, and some parts of Segriá and Empordà), the project conducts a follow-up of the 100% of the parcels eligible for the grant through remote sensing.
This monitoring controls if the areas located only in Terres de l'Ebre have been flooded. The Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Action (DAR) provides a table with the areas covered by the grant in the study area. CREAF performs a monitoring with the remote sensing images available, and derives a product consisting in a table reporting if the plots were flooded or not flooded for each of the dates for which an image exists. The report also adds a summary field indicating whether the site is considered compliant or not, based on the results for the dates. A report for each site identified as non-flooded for the corresponding campaign is also attached along with a snapshot of it showing its status at each date of data capture. The results of the campaign are delivered one month after the reception of the final image.
