Estefanía Muñoz Hoyos

I am interested in climate-driven systems, including water and carbon balances in terrestrial ecosystems. My doctoral thesis was on the ecohydrology of water-limited and energy-limited ecosystems.

I did my studies and doctorate at the National University of Colombia with academic stays at Texas A&M University and the Politecnico di Torino. My doctoral thesis was on the ecohydrology of water-limited and energy-limited ecosystems. I am interested in climate-driven systems, including water and carbon balances in terrestrial ecosystems. To study this, I have used analytical and numerical modelling, spatial and temporal data analysis, statistical and stochastic analysis, and field sampling.

After finishing my PhD, I worked at the World Mosquito Program, the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (Biology by Numbers program) and the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry. Here at CREAF, I will develop the DISEQ project as a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellow in collaboration with different members of the Global Ecology Unit and the MPG-BGC. In this project, we will study the effect of soil water availability on the fate of newly assimilated carbon and the time scales at which it is cycled in terrestrial ecosystems, as well as on the climate benefit of carbon sequestration on a global scale and in the Prades drought experiment.
