Technician

Gloria Casabella Herrero

Born in Madrid, I studied a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Later, I completed a Master’s in Biodiversity in Tropical Areas and its Conservation (UIMP-CSIC), with an internship that led me to spend time studying in Costa Rica.

I conducted my master's thesis on the use of molecular techniques for identifying invasive species and emerging pathogens, which provided me with the opportunity to continue my scientific career by pursuing a PhD at the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid (RJB-CSIC).

During this period, I conducted a review of the state of knowledge on the genus Aphanomyces (Oomycetes) but mainly focused on the detection of invasive species using different molecular methodologies in the laboratory and the field, with special emphasis on the use of environmental DNA and its proper application in monitoring freshwater ecosystems and in the early detection of biological invasions.

At CREAF, I will be part of the BIODIVERSA+ project with Lluís Brotons and Daniel Villero as a Technician in biodiversity observation, monitoring, and conservation systems, where we will carry out various activities in the field of science policies at a European scale.
