Raúl García Valdés
I am a professor at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (https://biodiversos.org/raul-gvaldes/) and a research associate at CREAF.
My interests are forest ecology, biogeography, and climate change. In my research, I investigate the impact of climate change on forests by studying the relationship between climate, tree community composition in species and traits, and the dynamics and functioning of forests. I utilize large databases (e.g., nation-wide forest inventories and functional traits datasets) to analyse key relationships (e.g., climate-distribution and diversity-functioning) and processes (dispersion, recruitment, growth, and mortality). Additionally, I use complex models such as patch (metapopulation), Species Distribution (niche), and Forest Succession (GAP) to simulate these relationships and processes, and understand how forests will change in the future.
