The necessary harmony between the global, European and Mediterranean agendas in Catalonia is driving a process of reflection that has been launched by the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Catalan government together with the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), aimed at defining the Med Cat 2030 strategy. The initiative has diverse voices, including the CREAF. For this reason, the MedCREAF team has actively participated in the seminar 'Mediterranean Strategy of Catalonia, MedCat 2030' recently convened by the government and the IEMed, in which Alicia Pérez-Porro, responsible for Political Interaction and Institutional Relations, took part. This meeting brought together representatives of political action, universities and science, the economy, civil society, non-profit entities, and various associations to rethink and reorient Catalonia's priorities in Euro-Mediterranean relations.

An open survey

To help define the Med Cat 2030 strategy, a survey co-financed by the European Commission has been launched and can be answered until 30 March 2025. The questionnaire is open to all organisations and individuals in the region and is part of the broader consultations planned by the EU with a wide range of stakeholders.

Its aim is to identify the main political priorities across the region to align mutual interests, as well as the key channels and instruments to be put in place in the coming years. In order to accurately reflect the priorities and views in the respective national contexts, it is addressed to representatives of the EU and the countries of the South and East of the Mediterranean, including people with political responsibility, representatives of the knowledge sector, civil society, non-governmental organisations and the private sector.

The Catalan government explains that with Med Cat 2030 it wants to "promote a renewed strategy that contributes to the relaunch of the Mediterranean dossier in European policies, strengthens relations and exchanges between actors on both sides, providing coherence to the foreign action of the Catalan government in the context of the objectives of sustainable development". For this reason, it is deployed on the basis of the axes: commitment, influence and alliances.
