Adaptations to climate change on the water use

Creaf leader

ACCUA project will assess the territorial vulnerability of the Mediterranean littoral in Catalonia with regard to the main effects of the global change related to water availability. The objective is to define possible adaptive options against this territorial and social vulnerability.

ACCUA is a three-year research project funded by Obra Social de Caixa Catalunya and coordinated by the Centre for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (CREAF), which includes the participation of researchers from other institutes, such as the Hydrogeology Group in the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (GHS-UPC), the Institute for Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA) and the European Topic Centre on Land Use and Spatial Information (ETC-LUSI).

Specific objectives:

To analyse the evolution of water availability along time, for different climate scenarios, according to land uses and their changes in some decades.
To analyse the vulnerability of the main crops and the possible alternatives.
To study the consequences of urban development on the water avalability and its evolution.
To assess the vulnerability of the territory, the population and the infrastructures to hydrological regime changes.
To establish the main vulnerable areas to sea level rise and to analyse the possible effects on populations, infrastructures and coastline in several scenarios.
