Anabel Sánchez Plaza

I have been a member of the CREAF technical research team since 1996. In 2021 I assume the responsibility of Impact officer of the centre. I have a degree in Biology (University of Barcelona, 1997), a master's degree in Sustainable Water management from the University of Zaragoza (2017) and a PhD Environment and Society from the Pablo de Olavide University in Seville (2022).

Since 1998, I have participated in several national (MONTES, MEDFORESTREAM) and European (ATEAM, SilviStrat, CARBO-INVENT, CCTAME, MOTIVE, CLIMSAVE) projects aimed at quantifying the carbon and water balance in forests, assessing the impact (especially drought and fire) of climate change on forest ecosystem services and identifying strategies for sustainable forest management and mitigation and adaptation.

Since 2013, my work has been more specifically oriented towards the analysis of vulnerability to global change in water use and the definition of adaptation measures, working together with local actors and administrations. I have participated in projects where science and society interact, such as the Citizen Drought Observatory (FECYT), CLISWELN (JPI Climate), FASTER (H2020-Widespread) and LIFE + MEDACC, and in governance projects for climate change adaptation such as ISACC TorDelta and REDAPTA (Fundación Biodiversidad), as well as coordinating the co-creation project BeWater (FP7) and the citizen science platform Alerta Forestal.
