Mukund Rao
I am an Ecoclimatologist who researches the interactions between climate change and natural and human ecosystems. My expertise includes dendrochronology, plant ecophysiology, remote sensing, and climate science.
I received my PhD in 2020 from Columbia University, USA. In my research I have investigated droughts and flooding in the Brahmaputra and Indus Rivers in South Asia and the impact of dzud (cold winters that cause livestock mortality) on pastoral nomadic herding communities in Mongolia. I am currently working on projects related to the forest carbon cycle, the vulnerability of boreal forests in Eurasia to increasing in heat waves, and the use of dendrochronology to understand past environmental change and timber transport.
While at CREAF I will be working as a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow with researcher Josep Peñuelas and other colleagues to investigate how climate change affects forest carbon through its entire lifecycle from photosynthesis to tree-growth.
