As a Severo Ochoa Excellence center, CREAF is a host organization of the INPhINIT Incoming fellowhips with ‘la Caixa’, and we offer up to 9 research projects to pursue PhD studies, addressed to early-stage scientifics of any nationality. We are committed to supporting young talent to be part of our cutting-edge research, connected to the most critical challenges society faces in this century on climate change and biodiversity. The call for submissions is opened until 25th January 2023.

At CREAF we are committed to supporting young talent to be part of our cutting-edge research, and to join a multidisciplinary and international research team.

CREAF INPhINIT fellows will be part of a multidisciplinary and international research team, with the best possible conditions. We encourage young scientists to get to know our research, as a powerful way to continue to delve deeper into science, to answer today's big questions about climate change and biodiversity.

Our proposals in this edition focus on Mediterranean farming, bees and molecular biomarkers, citizen science in times of global change, plant responses to climate change, resilience to drought in European forest trees, tropical South American forests in a warming world, zoogeochemistry and the role of nutrients, and denitrification in European soil ecosystems.

Mediterranean farming, bees and molecular biomarkers, citizen science and global change, resilience to drought of European forest trees, tropical South American forests, and denitrification in European soil ecosystems are some of our proposals. Have a look at them!

Our projects in depth:

  1. Innovative managements for global change adaption in Mediterranean farming and forest systems using soil multifunctionality as selection criteria. Group leader, researcher Xavier Domene x.domene@creaf.uab.cat
  2. Combined effects of pesticides and other stressors in solitary bees and development of molecular biomarkers. Group Leader: researcher Jordi Bosch jordi.bosch@uab.es
  3. Detection of bat population declines and local extinctions using citizen science: optimizing policy and populations resilience in times of Global Change. Group leader, researcher Lluís Brotons l.brotons@creaf.uab.cat
  4. Unraveling trait coordination to predict plant responses to climate change. Group leader, resercher Jordi Martínez Vilalta jordi.martinez.vilalta@uab.cat
  5. Drivers of variability and resilience of terrestrial ecosystems. Group leader, resercher Josep Peñuelas Reixach josep.penuelas@uab.cat
  6. Resilience to drought in European forest trees: integration among functional traits and growth responses. Group leader, researcher Maurizio Mencuccini m.mencuccini@creaf.uab.cat
  7. The fate of the forests in tropical South America in a warming world. Group leader, resercher Laia Andreu-Hayles lah@ldeo.columbia.edu
  8. Zoogeochemistry: unravelling the role of nutrients on the evolution of animals and its consequences on ecosystem functioning from micro to global scales. Group leader, resercher Josep Peñuelas Reixach josep.penuelas@uab.cat
  9. Evaluating the role of denitrification as the most important sink of Nr in European soil Ecosystems (D-NESS). Group leader, resercher Àngela Ribas angela.ribas@uab.cat

Please check the INPhINIT Incoming fellowships requirements, and take into account that candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain or in Portugal for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline for applications.

In addition, INPhINIT PhD fellowships offer a highly competitive salary and complementary opportunities for transversal skills training through annual training sessions, incentives at the end of the thesis, and a host of other aspects that make these fellowships among the most attractive and comprehensive in Europe.

All applications must be necessarily through the Candidate portal from la Caixa Foundation website. Other forms of application wont be considered.
